HOT WORK – training for hot work contractors under the international SPEK license

The trainee is trained for work which presents a risk of fire (welding, grinding, cutting, heating, …). The Hot Work Certificate under the international SPEK license allows the worker to work on site in the Scandinavian countries, and the CFPA-E certificate in other European countries.

Hot work is work using open flames, heat sources or sparking tools. These are flame or electric welding, flame gas or gas burner heating or hot air heating, grinding and cutting with grinding and cutting boards, heating combustible waterproofing … Large fires, especially in temporary workplaces, have created a need for training for hot contractors.

Whenever possible, hot work is performed at a permanent hot work site. A permanent hot work site is a designated area or fire sector intended solely for the safe operation of hot work. A temporary hot work site must have a written permit for hot work. Roofing and waterproofing are always carried out on temporary hot work sites.

The license provider is the Finnish National Rescue Association – SPEK (The Finnish National Rescue Association)

Training participants can also obtain a digital version of the certificate, which they can download via the application to their mobiles. Advantages of digital certificate:

  • Always available when there is a mobile phone at hand;
  • until receipt of a written certificate, it shall be considered as a provisional training certificate,
  • it is easy to check the SPEK registry data;
  • a precise indication of the tasks for the certificate holder;
  • it reminds the holder of the expiry of the certificate.
